Hammer drive screws to BS 4174 Type ‘U’
|Hammer drives are a version of self-tapping screw with multiple start threads having a large lead angle and pilot point, which are driven into pre-drilled holes with a hammer or machine press. The lack of any recess in the head effectively allows for a tamper resistant permanent assembly. They are used with unhardened materials such as mild steel, brass, copper, aluminium and plastics, generally for fixing small components such as identification plates to machine members.
Hammer drive pins are available in heat treated carbon steel or stainless steel most commonly in a dome head form. Carbon steel versions are provided in Electro Brass, Nickel Plated or Zinc Plated (CR3) finishes whilst the Stainless Steel versions are A2 grade.
